Anyone in the world By Gregg Hall We've all heard how important it is to exercise on a daily basis, but it can be difficult to schedule regular slots of time to get in shape. For those who might have extra time, exercising can be boring, so after a while they lose interest and stop doing it. The good news is, you can get a great workout just by doing regular chores, or finding a form that you enjoy so much, you will continue to do it. House cleaning is not only something that we do all the time, it burns plenty of calories while we do it. Step up your heart rate even more by doing chores that require lifting and movement. Cleaning out the garage is one way and so is cleaning out your kitchen cabinets. Stepping up and down on a chair to reach the higher areas provides great aerobic activity. Help yourself and your friends by offering to help them move. Lifting and carrying boxes to the truck and into the new home will strengthen your muscles and burn fat. It's important to protect your back when lifting heavy items, so be sure to use proper lifting techniques. Walking is a great way to get in shape. The best thing about it is that you don't have to just walk a boring track or treadmill. Head over to the mall and walk from one end to the other and back again. If it has more than one level, take the stairs to the next level and do the same there. For more fun, buddy up or volunteer for a charity walk, like the March of Dimes. When you go grocery shopping, park in a spot that's far enough from the store to get a good workout. Mowing the lawn with a push mower, especially the old fashioned kind that doesn't have a self propelling motor is another good way to burn calories. Pushing the mower around the lawn can cover more distance than you think. You also get the benefit of being out doors and enjoying the sunshine. Speaking of yard work, weeding the flower beds cause you to constantly bend, stoop and stand. This is great for your leg muscles. Raking the yard adds walking and arm movements for an even more beneficial workout. When you take the dog for a walk, you take yourself for one too. You can walk at a brisk pace or even race your dog for more fun. Your dog will certainly enjoy it and so might you. Instead of watching an aerobics video, turn on the radio and start dancing. You can do it in your living room or you can go out to a club. Consider taking dance lessons and twirl away those pounds. Playing with your children allows you both of you to have fun. Play hide and seek or tag. Start up a game of kickball, or shoot some hoops. Whatever game you choose, it's a great way for the family to bond. Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Florida. Anyone in the world By Rebecca Prescott Your skin is a very clever organ. No matter which in the arsenal of developments in anti aging skin care products are proudly emblazoned on the bottle and in the marketing literature, your skin knows the truth. And whilst it may play the game for a little while, plumping up nicely to give the appearance of looking younger, more even, and less lined, this is only a temporary, somewhat cosmetic ruse. It is actually a biological trick of the light, a chimeraic nod to the quest for youth. Don't be fooled. Skin care is big business. And there's nothing wrong with that. But whilst its highly entertaining to browse through the shelves and try out the latest pedigree of skin cream, these foot soldiers in the war on wrinkles meet a somewhat tenacious and uncooperative foe in our skin. Our skin. This multi-layered emissary to the outside world, bearer of our expressions, our joys, our grief. Guard against the invisible tide of micro-organisms that seek to infiltrate our body's first defence against disease and infection. This complex array of cells that every month regenerate and shed, within the constraints of age and the quality of our diet. Our skin is a hard worker and much unappreciated. Often barely nourished despite the money spent on technological promises, we still hope the dream of youth slipping away will be restored. There is a way to slow the process of aging. But not by applying high tech anti aging creams. By understanding exactly what our skin is, we can find better ways of giving it what it needs. And consequently, we will find ourselves with what we want - more youthful skin. Our skin is composed of 3 main layers. The outside layer that we apply our anti aging skin care products to is the epidermis. This in turn has 4 to 5 layers, depending on where it is in the body, and whether there is a lot of hair on it. The top layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, serves as a barrier. This is where the cells are continually shedding and where new cells are ultimately pushed up to. These cells have no blood supply, and hence no nutrients or oxygen carried in the blood reach these cells. They are essentially dead in that they cannot engage in the metabolic processes that living cells do. But they do serve very important functions. By creating an impenetrable barrier, they keep out bacteria and other micro organisms, and are thus part of the immune system. But this very function also serves to keep out most of the expensive ingredients in anti aging treatments. And no matter how well an ingredient performs in a laboratory test tube, that does not necessarily translate to reaching the deeper layers of your skin, where the real anti aging work takes place. Most skin care products work only on the stratum corneum, and that is their downfall as anti aging secret agents. The next layer down from the top is the dermis. This is the layer where wrinkles develop. The dermis consists of living cells, and they are responsible for the structure, integrity and elasticity of the skin. Here collagen is regenerated whilst existing collagen is broken down in the monthly cellular cycle. The production of collagen slows with age and factors like smoking, sun exposure, stress and inadequate nutrition. Other skin nutrients like elastin and hyaluronic acid are found here. Hyaluronic acid for example, helps hold water. As the dermis is composed of living cells, it has a blood supply, which transport nutrients and oxygen to the cells. These capillaries also transport cellular wast like carbon dioxide away. Here you'll also find lymph vessels, sebaceous and sweat glands, hair follicles, and nerve endings for heat and cold. Fibers from the dermis extend down and into the next main layer, the subcutaneous layer. They anchor the skin to it. The subcutaneous layer in turn attaches to organs like bone and muscles underneath. Here are nerve endings that are sensitive to pressure, blood, lymph vessels, fat cells, collagen and elastin. The subcutaneous layer thins as we age, which creates a more angular appearance. Moisturizers achieve their temporary effect by trapping water already in the skin. They essentially act as a seal, they do not provide additional water or 'moisture'. The few products that actually work on the deeper layers of the skin are the Retin-A skin care treatments. Vitamin C, though popular, has not conclusively demonstrated that it can reach the deeper layers, the dermis. And even if it did, there is not enough evidence that it actually does anything there. But the news is not all bad. We can do something, and its not rocket science. If we supply the skin with the nutrients it needs, with good, fresh fruit and vegetables, and good quality fats and protein, or even supplements as a boost. Then, and only then, will we stall the clock at a more agreeable hour. References:

Anyone in the world By Connie LeGendre The majority of focal points in your garden will survive the winter but may sustain some damage or wear. While planting and gardening may have to wait for warmer weather, it is time to get out the tools, restoration and scouring materials to repair and clean. Before you replace your water feature, gazebo, sculpture, or other wood, stone, metal, iron or tile focal points, you may want to look into fixing them. There are many repair, restoration, and cleaning products on the market to bring your garden focal point back to its original or near original condition. Although often you will be referred to a professional to handle some of your restoration or repairs, your local home renovation stores have many of the materials and supplies necessary to make your focal point look as good as new. However, pick your battles carefully. If the project is small enough or does not require the handling of toxic materials, then a do-it-yourself approach is a good solution. On the other hand, if the project is large, complex, or toxic, hire a professional. You will save money, time, and possibly your health. Speaking of health, be especially careful about repairing or cleaning garden ornaments that will affect pets and wildlife, such as bird baths and ponds. It is possible that toxic elements can leach into the water and have an adverse affect on birds using your bird bath and fish in your pond. And even more important, protect yourself from the hazards involved in handling toxic materials. Wear appropriate gloves, eye covering, masks, coveralls, and shoes. You may not need to use all of this gear at once, but be sure to use whatever protection is necessary and recommended by the manufacturer. It goes without saying, but worth mentioning anyway, that you should read the directions on every cleaner, restoration or repair materials you plan to use. It is wise to do this where you buy it in case you have questions that could be answered by the store consultants or clerks. Finally, if you have cleaning, repairing or restoration material left over from another season, be sure to check on its shelf life, as well as to remind yourself of its use to avoid damaging your treasured focal points. Some products stain, tarnish, or rust wood, stone or metal because of age. Are you ready for the weather to warm up and to get busy with readying your landscape for Spring? Anyone in the world By Martin Harshberger "Common sense is
not so common." Voltaire Do you ever wonder why people behave as they do? I am constantly
amazed at the behavior of people and the things they do. As I get older I get more and more curious and spend much more
time thinking about things than I did in my twenties.
It just seems we have swung the pendulum
so far from common sense that it may never come back. I don't think its because we're stupid, but I do believe that we are
time constrained and we don't take time to think for ourselves. I also believe that there is a conscious effort to
"dumb down Americans" by the media and the advertising
industries. We rely too much on these sources of "information"
for our own good. Perhaps it's the threat of lawsuits that make
us so scary of allowing people to be responsible for their
actions. I have some recent examples of "warning labels" that
make me feel somebody thinks I'm stupid. My new lawnmower
warned me not to pick it up while it's running and use it as a
hedge trimmer. Or the makers of my windshield sunscreen told
me not to operate the vehicle while it was in place. We have become oblivious to things like this and have also become
accustomed to not being responsible for our actions. For example we want to sue the fast food industries for making us
fat. Hey, we know it's bad and we eat the stuff.... I do have a point to all of this and it is simply that we are, as
a nation are large and growing larger. I read an article in yesterday's
newspaper that they are going to begin weight checks on cruise
ships and airlines because average passenger weights are getting
heavier. Seats are being widened, even coffins are being 'super
sized". Obesity has increased by 20% in the last decade and
the diet industry has grown to over $35 billion annually. Hey,
Ever think maybe the stuff they're selling isn't working? We keep going down the same path however, looking for positive
results without trying to understand the fundamentals of how the
body works and what we need to provide it to allow it to be fit
and well. Keep in mind that we were not programmed to be fit by
using any of the varied diet products and programs on the market
today. Our bodies will do just fine with proper food (fuel) and
exercise. None of us want to acknowledge those facts however
because it might require a lifestyle change. Based on the research Ive done over the past few years a
lifestyle change is inevitable. We as humans with advanced thinking
capacity get to influence what type of lifestyle change we undergo. We can choose to eat better, exercise and enjoy the lifestyle of a fit
and healthy person, or we can choose to ignore the facts and
have a lifestyle chosen for us. The second option may include a lifestyle we arent so satisfied with. The option is ours, but one or the other will occur, we can impact
it in a positive or negative way. One way or the other our current
lifestyle will change, for better or for worse, let use our heads
and common sense to learn how to make changes in a positive manner. We must stop looking for the easy, fast, no-effort miracle cure
for fitness and wellness. Frankly our bodies arent made to
function without regular effort, only we call it exercise. Use your head to improve your quality of life. Learn more about

Anyone in the world By Michael Russell Cosmetic surgery is not a sharply defined area. An operation of any kind should achieve a good cosmetic result, even an appendectomy or a back operation for a ruptured disc. Also, many cosmetic operations have a functional as well as cosmetic aspect, such as upper eyelid surgery to improve the field of vision, or breast size reduction to alleviate neck, back, or breast pain. By virtue of common usage, cosmetic surgery has become an acceptable term. There are some plastic surgeons, however, who prefer the term aesthetic surgery. Cosmetic is derived from the Greek word Kosmos, meaning order, beauty, or improving on beauty. Aesthetic is derived from the Greek word Aisthetikos, meaning to perceive by the senses, or pertaining to the senses of the beautiful. There is nothing new about the desire to look younger or more attractive. Improving self-image is an acceptable concept in today's health regime. Most American women discuss restorative surgery with their friends and family and they do not feel guilty about having such surgery performed. Of course, they do not usually advertise their operation and sometimes ask how they can camouflage the postoperative look so they can return to work as soon as possible. Many factors account for the increasing popularity of cosmetic surgery. Contemporary culture in the United States is preoccupied with youthful appearance. Women who are threatened with the loss of a job because the look too old, may have cosmetic surgery for monetary reasons. Unfortunately, many employers value the look of blooming good health associated with youth rather than years of experience and a mature sense of responsibility. The "baby boomers" in the workplace are well aware of this. Now entering their fifties, this generation was the first to enjoy the many advantages of modern medicine. They enjoyed the protection of the polio vaccine and life-saving advantages of antibiotics. Fitness programs and better eating habits have contributed to their good health also. Another factor that accounts for the recent increase in cosmetic surgery is the publicity it has received in newspapers, women's magazines and the media. Prior to 1979, ethical plastic surgeons did not advertise. Then the Federal Trade Commission declared that this restriction created a monopoly, which was illegal. Now physicians, even those not trained in plastic surgery and advertise and they do. As a result, the number of people, particularly women, seeking cosmetic surgery has increased. So too, has the number of the qualified and unqualified practitioners. Only diplomats of the American Board of Plastic Surgery are recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists as specialists in plastic surgery. They have been trained in general surgery and subsequently in plastic surgery and therefore are qualified to operate on the entire body. Other groups of physicians operate above the collar bone on the head and neck. Dermatological surgeons perform chemical peels, a popular way to defeat the skin's aging process. Who pays for cosmetic surgery? Being elective, it is usually paid for by the patient. Surgery to correct congenital deformities such as cleft lip and palate, deformities resulting from accidental injury and cancer deformities such as mastectomy may be covered by insurance. Some women forgo vacations and others spend practically no money on clothes for years so that they can save up for cosmetic surgery. Some borrow money; others sell a valuable piece of jewelry. Girls in their teens are sometimes given money to spend on a "nose job" for their 16th birthday. Anyone in the world By Dr. Gary S. Goodman Perhaps its only fitting to mark the passing of one of my professors, Peter F. Drucker, by meditating on one of his favorite, and I believe, most important questions. Whenever my classmates and I would boast about our products, our technologies, our specialized experience, or say anything at all self-serving, hed swiftly bring us back to reality by noting: All of that is fine, but what is value to your customers? In other words, it didnt matter if we believed we beat the pants off our competitors by having more branches in more places. If we couldnt argue convincingly to the internationally famous Father of Modern Management that our customers agreed with us, those branches, no matter how sparkling and expensive, were of no consequence, whatsoever. In fact, by focusing at all on our own opinions, instead of actively monitoring and measuring our customers, we err in two ways. We waste time and resources looking inward, which is decadent, and we insulate ourselves more and more from the only people who really matter in businesscustomerswho pay our bills and provide opportunities. Value isnt always obvious, Drucker would point out. We may think were providing one satisfaction when the customer is really deriving another, more significant satisfaction to him. Take a modern gym, such as Ballys or 24-Hour Fitness. Their generally accepted purpose is to get people into shape, if you ask most of the people who work there. Certainly, many people buy memberships for that stated purpose. But there are lots of other reasons people sign-up. For some, its a social outlet, for others, a sanctuary where they can set their own pace, relax, and escape the demands of family and co-workers. For a few, its a chance to preen, to show-off their abs or biceps or whatever the muscle de jour happens to be. If you observe most members, theyre in no rush to move from station to station. They linger, and their heartbeats seldom seem to reach that magical aerobic moment when calories happily burn away. If theyre pushed by the staff or by other patrons to work harder or faster, they rebel, if only silently. They want to get into shape their own way, which of course, isnt always technically feasible, but many folks con themselves into thinking that theyre progressing. Their victory is walking through the gyms door, not in becoming an Adonis. To run a financially successful gym, one would have to accept these customers and make it possible for them to maintain their illusions, because these illusions are satisfactions to them. Illusions constitute value, in the Druckerian sense. He was fond of telling us how his young niece requested a special gift for her birthday, which provided no functional utility at the time--her first brassiere. Instead of dismissing this request, he understood it as a desire to feel more grown-up, and he honored her wish, giving her a truly valued gift, and great joy. Not only do we have to ask the all-important value question. We need to re-ask it, if we hope to keep pace with and to retain our clientele. Realities change, sometimes suddenly. GMs biggest SUV looks very different when the price of gasoline spikes. Ballys has to stay on top of trends, and offer Pilates or yoga classes, depending upon what seems to be in demand. It cant say, Weve always run dance classes, and thats it! Being guided by customer sensibilities can be very scary to some businesspeople. It requires us to challenge tradition and preconceptions, to open up, to ask questions, and to renounce authoritarianism. We need to be willing to really understand the viewpoints of others, and to cater to them, to serve them the way they want to be served. We need to be prepared to abandon our favorite products, the ones that have defined us and nurtured us, when there is the hint that they no longer deliver value to the customer. Thats tough, and that is part of the legacy of Peter Drucker. As former GE CEO Jack Welch said, Professor Drucker had a knack for asking the right question, usually a deceptively simple one, that could add tremendous clarity and value to ones business. Dr. Gary S. Goodman is a popular keynote speaker, management consultant, and seminar leader and the best-selling author of 12 books, including Monitoring, Measuring & Managing Customer Service. Garys programs are offered by UCLA Extension and by numerous universities, trade associations, and other organizations in the United States and abroad. He studied directly with Peter Drucker at Claremont Graduate University, for two and a half years, earning an MBA, in the process. When he isnt consulting, Gary can usually be found in Glendale, California, where he makes his home. He can be reached at

Anyone in the world By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Nicholas_Hunt]Nicholas Hunt As the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, our thoughts might start turning towards festive matters. Christmas is coming, and while this should be a cause for excitement and anticipation of good family times, for many of us there's something less pleasurable on our minds at this time of year. The holiday season gets evermore expensive, and if money is already tight we might worry about how our finances will cope. It's very common for people to use a credit card to cover the expenses of gifts, food, drinks and socialising, intending to pay off their indulgences in the New Year, but this kind of credit is fairly expensive - especially if your good intentions to repay early don't quite succeed and you end up carrying the debt for many months. Another option is to make use of an overdraft facility at the bank, going 'into the red' over the holiday season. This is a convenient option, but it comes at a price - an overdraft is often expensive to maintain, with both a monthly fee and a percentage interest charge. This can make an overdraft almost expensive as a credit card. There's also the danger that if you overdraw heavily on your account so that you're close to your limit, you're not leaving yourself much financial breathing space should an unexpected expense arrive in January. Besides that, once you've built up an overdraft it can be very hard to pull yourself back into the black, particularly if your normal budget leaves you with little spare cash each month. So what's the solution to this? Are we doomed to a festive season of bread and water, alone and miserable? Well, maybe a personal loan could be the answer. Taking out a loan, if done thoughtfully and with a definite purpose in mind, can provide you with the funds you need to see you through the holidays without plunging you into penury for the rest of the year. First of all, by shopping around you'll be able to take advantage of the intense competition between loan providers, and you should be able to get yourself credit at a much, much cheaper rate than that of a credit card or an overdraft. This means your monthly repayments can be smaller, or alternatively you can clear the debt much more quickly. Secondly, a loan is usually arranged on a fixed rate basis, meaning that you'll know exactly how much you need to repay every month. This contrasts to the variable rates of credit cards and overdrafts, which can change from month to month, leaving you unsure in your budgetting. Finally, a personal loan is most often repaid over a specified length of time, after which your debt has been cleared. With a credit card, it's tempting to just make the minimum repayments, which barely cover the interest charges, leaving the best part of your debt uncleared. This is a guaranteed way to enrich the card company while keeping the millstone of debt around your neck. So is a personal loan the right solution for you? Credit should never be taken out without careful consideration of how it will affect your financial future, and it is of course better to live within your means if possible. However, if you decide that credit is the best way forward then a personal loan is often the cheapest and most effective option. Anyone in the world By Alan Summers Looking for something a bit different? Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' (Black Lace Elderberry) is definitely not your grandmother's Elderberry. Developed in England over a ten-year period, 'Black Lace' has the look of a Japanese Maple, but is much hardier and easier to grow. The finely cut, lacy, dark purple foliage looks wonderful all season long, adding color, interesting texture, and appeal on its own, regardless of flowers. But when it does flower, watch out. In early summer the ferny, almost-black leaves are accented by creamy pink flowers almost six inches across, appearing in flat-topped clusters, and emitting a light lemon fragrance. In the fall, the flowers are replaced by blackish-red berries that stand out beautifully against the leaves. The berries attract songbirds, adding even more color. Think about the ever-changing splendor this beauty will bring to your landscape. Its uses are endless. In addition to a foundation plant, 'Black Lace' makes a perfect hedge, border standout, or specimen. It matures to six to eight feet high and about five feet wide, with arching branches. Grow it as a shrub, train it as a tree, cut 'Black Lace' back to the ground in spring and use it as a bold perennial or prune it severely in early spring to fit a small space. It is colorful, versatile and very easy to grow, withstanding cold wind, very low temperatures, and even partial shade without losing any of its appeal. This compact plant is the "hot" plant in Western Europe - so beautiful and so unique that it was named "Best New Plant" of 2006 at the NMPro ANLA New Plant Pavilion and also took several prizes at the Chelsea show in England. Carroll Gardens is one of a select number of growers to have this beautiful black specimen before its national release in 2007. Alan Summers, president of Carroll Gardens, Inc., has over 30 years experience in gardening and landscape design. He has made Carroll Gardens one of Americas preeminent nurseries, having introduced more than 20 new perennials and woody shrubs over the years and reintroduced numerous lost cultivars back to American gardeners. Anyone in the world By Andrew Leatherland If youre a Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) sufferer or you just feel down each winter its all too easy to think that nothing can be done about it. Even if youre close to a sufferer youre affected. You hope that by hunkering down for the winter youll ride it out because its an inevitable problem that you cant avoid. Its true to some extent that you cant avoid it because youre fighting your own biology to do so. However, the degree to which you suffer it is not inevitable. You can have your best winter yet. The success guru Jack Canfield wrote If you keep doing what you always did, youll get what you always got. This rings true for SAD & Winter Blues sufferers. By doing what you always do in winter its highly likely you will experience the same rough ride that you have for previous winters. By changing your approach to winter, you and those around could be a lot brighter and a lot more energetic than previously. The first thing you have to do is decide to change your approach. Like smoking, drinking or gambling breaking a cycle needs people to make a conscious decision to change. Where your mind goes the rest of you will follow. The second thing you need to do is change your approach to everyday life. So much of what we do in life is habit. We tend to just do what weve always done. We drive the same way to work, eat the same food and so on. With this condition, not changing your habits to fight it will put you at its mercy. One simple exercise you can do to see the power habit has over your life is to sit down for twenty minutes with a piece of paper. Over the twenty minutes write down everything you do day by day. Look back and youll probably see patterns emerging put children to be, eat dinner, sit down, watch TV etc. Now dont throw this list away because youre going to need it. You dont need wholesale change. Changing on a massive scale is difficult to achieve and is likely to result in failure. Thats like New Year Resolutions to lose weight through crash dieting, or deciding to get fit by running a marathon. They are such massive changes to the system that you cannot keep them up. What you need is to identify a series. So how do you make that change? Well you plan and you organise. If done right your life wont look radically different day to day. You can build some small but powerful changes into your everyday routine. But you must plan and you must follow through on the plan. Also improve your chances of success by working the plan into your everyday routine. Plan where to put your light therapy and plan your medication in consultant with your Doctor if youre a SAD sufferer. Plan to use your lunchtime at work to talk a short walk in the daylight. Plan your meals so they include nutrients that help maintain greater energy levels when you need it. Also plan your food so it includes the kind of ingredients that help lift your mood. What should be important in the planning process is that there are a series of actions each day that are slightly different from normal but that have an emphasis on fighting the symptoms of these conditions. More importantly they should be things that you can slot into your everyday routine without upheaval to you or your family. Plan to beat it and action that plan. You can be so much better for it. With the small steps highlighted here and by starting right now next March you should be able to look back and reflect on a much improved winter Andrew Leatherland runs the resource website for SAD and Winter Blues sufferers and their families. http://www.freewebs.com/winterblues The site has just opened a forum where everyone can come to discuss the condition and their experiences as well as seek support. Anyone in the world By Tim Webb Many exercise regimes depend upon machinery, gyms, and
expensive gadgets. However, what if I told you that just by using your breath
in certain ways, combined with contractions of certain
muscles, you could quickly and easily work up a sweat? Well, this is the truth! In fact, by focusing on your breath first and by holding
certain positions for time, you can greatly enhance
digestion, internal organ health, as well as generate
feelings of well-being and focus. All you need to do is harness your breath. Below are some of the main benefits of having deep
breathing exercises as a part of your exercise regime. 1. Ease of access. 2. You can immediately feel the benefits of some
exercises. 3. Diverse benefits. Depending on whether the exercises
you choose are meditative in nature or more dynamic
you can achieve different objectives. 4. Holistic. They can be based around your mind and
body to make a 'normal' physical workout into something
more profound and rewarding. 5. They can help you in numerous situations. At the
office, in the car, first thing in the morning.
By consciously regulating your breath you can
gain a calming effect, a pick me-up, or even a
stomach tightening mini workout! 6. Boost immunity. By using your breath to aid in
clearing your mind and getting you into a
meditative state you can fight off illness and
recover from workouts faster! (c) Tim Webb 2006 Tim Webb is a fitness instructor, Ju Jutsu instructor and competitor.
